Economic Benefits Abound
A very important factor for this to happen is that currently, there are 16 cities with direct connections to the Los Cabos International Airport.
The municipality of Los Cabos is primarily promoted as a luxury tourist destination and is one of the places in Mexico with the highest hotel rates, averaging $500 usd per night.
However, domestic tourism has been on the rise in recent years.
Rodrigo Esponda, Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, commented that this growth is partly due to the expanded air connections nationwide.
“Domestic tourism has been the largest proportion of growth in Los Cabos, with new cities joining, from small to large cities within Mexico, with 16 direct connections to Los Cabos,” he explained.
He recalled that less than a decade ago, there were only seven or eight cities that connected directly to Los Cabos International Airport, and they expect this number of routes to double in a few years.
During a recent event with the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies in Cabo San Lucas, meetings were held with airlines to discuss new routes. “We are confident that this will continue to boost the flow of domestic visitors to Los Cabos,” he concluded.
