To face all the challenges derived from the construction of the overplayed overpass in San Jose, the local government formed what in Spanish is called a “Mesa de Movilidad” which translates to a “Technical Mobility Roundtable” and refers to a working group or advisory body that meets to address and discuss issues related to mobility and transportation in the city. This group is made up of representatives from various entities, such as government authorities, the hotel sector, taxi drivers, and transportation concessionaires, with the goal of finding solutions to traffic problems and improving traffic flow in the area. The Mobility Roundtable serves as a space for dialogue and coordination to promote concrete actions that positively impact mobility in San José del Cabo.
At its most recent meeting, this group agreed on several topics after a supervisory tour of the construction of the overpass at the Fonatur roundabout. Among them, it was agreed to install cameras in the area to monitor traffic and wait times.
There will be coordinated communication between the Municipal Transit Department and the Department of Social Communications to provide real-time information regarding traffic at the roundabout and, in turn, to inform the public through the media.
For its part, the construction company agreed to carry out work during nighttime hours, which will be from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
This measure is part of the strengthening of alternatives and options promoted by the Los Cabos government, seeking to minimize disruptions and reduce traffic congestion.
At the meeting It was agreed to transplant palm trees from the central median to open another lane for traffic. Their new location will be determined through the Department of Public Works, the Department of Public Services, and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).
Finally, it was agreed to provide the work plan for the construction work to be carried out during the week at the next mobility meeting, and to present proposals for the preservation and improvement of the urban image.
