Los Cabos has lots of family-owned establishments that offer great food at a reasonable price. The challenge is to find and visit as many as possible to experience their atmosphere, food, and service. Here are three more.

San Jose del Cabo: La Bikina Restaurante
A new restaurant has opened in Chamizal on the end of the block from Guacamayas, where Zona Norte was – La Bikina. I first met the owner, David Flores (musician not Gingo Gazette) when he was performing Spanish guitar at La Osteria and Mirai. Three weeks ago, he opened La Bikina with a vision to make it a great place, with food priced for locals and live entertainment attractive to both locals and expat residents looking for a place to enjoy music. Currently, he performs on Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday, he is joined by a music guest, Friday is karaoke, and Saturday is a live band. His ultimate dream is to create a night where local musicians will come together and jam one night a week.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by David Flores, offered a table and introduced to our waitress Brenda. A new menu was starting the next day, and she provided us with a printed copy and asked us what we would like to drink. There was a Mexican football match on the big screen TV, and I noticed the table being served a huge platter of nachos, which looked amazing. I asked Brenda if we could have just a small plate of the nachos as a starter. A little while later she brought us a small plate with homemade tortilla chips, cheese, arrachera, beans, and guacamole. The flavor was amazing and very filling. For the next course, we ordered a small mixed salad to share that included lettuce, cabbage, onions, beets, and cheese, accompanied by a delicious homemade dressing. For a main course, we chose the chicken dish that came with bacon-infused mashed potatoes, pasta with a cilantro sauce, and chicken in an amazing mustard sauce.
Although we were stuffed, Brenda convinced us to share an order of the flan for dessert. She explained that the sauce was created for the nuns in convents on mainland Mexico and contained vanilla, and even a little alcohol in the creamy mixture. While flan is not Beth’s favorite, she loved the sauce.
The atmosphere is great, the service perfect and every course tasted very good at extremely reasonable prices.

Cabo San Lucas: Margarita Garden & Grill
Located across the street from Cabo Wabo in the former location of Baja La Luna is Margarita Garden and Grill. The front of the restaurant has tables with multi-colored fabric tablecloths. The bar on the left side was expanded and leads to the open garden area in the back with the wood-fired oven and kitchen. At the left in the front is a tequila tasting area with a bar and a display of dozens of different tequilas to taste and for sale.
We took a table in the garden area at the back. The menu offers a wide range of Mexican food – enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, fajitas – as well as traditional appetizers – guacamole, nachos with shrimp, chicken, or steak. There are also several seafood dishes, steak, surf and turf, and even burgers. There are specials presented on a whiteboard at your table. While we were reviewing the menu, we were served tortilla chips and Pico de Gallo.
Beth and I were there for a very early dinner and decided to have a simple meal. We started with guacamole, which was served in a large stone bowl, along with the Pico de Gallo, and tortilla chips. The guacamole was excellent and already had some tomatoes and onions mixed into the avocado. We shared chicken fajitas for our main course. This was also served in a large stone bowl and had a mix of grilled onions, cactus, green and red peppers, onions, whole chilis, and tofu. The fajitas were served with tortillas, beans and guacamole. The flavors were excellent and there was more than enough for two people.
The owner, Galileo, dropped over to check on our experience. The food and service were great.

Pescadero: El Burguer Shack
Driving from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos, it is hard to miss the signs announcing how far it is to El Burguer Shack, which has locations in Pescadero and Todos Santos. We decided to stop for lunch at the Pescadero location just after the main intersection on the right. The menu is posted on the wall, and you order at the counter. The menu includes hamburgers, double and double-double burgers, cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers, chicken wings, fish and chips, French fries, and onion rings. Milkshakes, sodas and beer are available for drinks. There are also combos of burgers, fries, and a drink available.
Beth ordered the burger, fries and Topo Chico combo and I chose the cheeseburger combo with diet Coke. The food was delivered very quickly, along with ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard. The hamburgers were like smashburgers — thin with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and in my case a slice of cheese. They were excellent. The French fries were thin-cut, crispy, and also very good.
We really enjoyed our lunch. The restaurant is comfortable, the service is quick and friendly, and the prices are amazing. Our whole meal was $305 pesos, with large bottles of Topo Chico and diet Coke.
