Josefina Rodríguez, head of SECTUR (Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism), reported that 3,890,000 foreign tourists arrived in Mexico by air during the first two months of 2025, based on their country of residence.
This figure represents a 2.7 percent increase compared to 2024 and a 17.9 percent increase over 2019, when 3,299,000 tourists visited. Most of these tourists came from the United States, Canada, and Argentina. Together, these three countries accounted for 3,261,000 air arrivals, which marks a 6.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024 and a 30.3 percent increase compared to 2019.
Specifically, 2,368,000 U.S. residents arrived by air in January and February 2025, a 4.3 percent rise from 2024 and a significant 38.2 percent increase from 2019.
Rodríguez emphasized that these numbers clearly demonstrate the importance of international tourism to the economic relationship between Mexico and the United States. She reaffirmed the need to strengthen and maintain tourism ties between both countries. To support this effort, she announced that as part of the 2025 Tourism Fair, a cultural and gastronomic event titled “La Ventana de México en San Diego” (The Window to Mexico in San Diego) will be held at Liberty Station. This free event, open to the public on April 26 and 27, 2025, will showcase Mexico’s natural beauty, rich culture, artisanal crafts, and diverse cuisine.
Rodríguez also noted that tourist arrivals from Canada reached 814,352 in the first two months of 2025, up 11.8 percent from the same period in 2024 and 15.6 percent from 2019.
Meanwhile, arrivals from Argentina totaled 78,139 during the same period, reflecting a 29.5 percent increase compared to 2024.
