Local Kids Learn English For Fun And Future Jobs

Did you know one of our writers and consultants from the Gringo Gazette, Lisa Vaughan, teaches every Saturday afternoon at OK Academy, which is located in Cabo San Lucas? 

The Academy is an English speaking school for local Mexican students and the goal of the Academy is to help students of Cabo San Lucas achieve their dreams with a strong understanding of the English language. These students commute from 20 minutes up to one hour each way to attend the class, and class size ranges from 10 -15 students.

Lisa teaches a four-hour English Conversational Class from 12 - 4 p.m. and her students range from the age of 13 to the age of 16-years-old. They are intelligent, respectful young individuals that are on scholarship.

"I really enjoy interacting with these young kids, and helping them learn how to master the English language while having fun in the process," said Lisa.

OK Academy is a special place with several classrooms and is administered and managed very professionally. All of her students were born in different parts of Mexico, including Cabo San Lucas, Mochoacan, Mexico City, Los Mochis, and Sinaloa. 

Their parents have a range of occupations including sales person, convenience store owner, stylist, waitress, waiter, psychologist, teacher of music, doctor, animal rescue employee, restaurant owner and manager, chef, police officer, and one parent coaches the La Roca, soccer team. 

When the students were asked, why do you want to study English?  Their responses were because they want to learn, talk perfect English, and speak English so they can work in a hotel, they like the class, like the teachers, enjoy being with their classmates, the experience, it´s a good school, they need opportunity in the world, obtain a good job, become bilingual for travel.  They are quite incredible individuals and are very goal oriented.
