F.O.L. Says Full Shelves Make Happy Hearts

The 2016 Rosarito Lee (Rosarito Reads) campaign advocates “Full shelves – happy hearts.”

This will be the third year of the city wide reading program, and this year the Friends of the Library would love to furnish enough books for 5000 4th through 6th grade students to be involved in the reading program. Each year Rosarito Lee benefits the local schools as well as the remote and impoverished libraries of Rosarito.

There are several ways to help our city’s students. Becoming a school sponsor helps the most students with the purchase of 40 books that can be shared by as many as 450 students.

You don’t have to go this alone, as card groups, golf foursomes, wine societies, book clubs, or any old gang of friends is encouraged to pool their resources to sponsor a school. This year so far 17 people/ groups / businesses were named as Rosarito Lee sponsors.  Or you may just send a donation and FOL will do the rest. School sponsorships are $200, but other donation categories are available priced from $15 to $500. Every centavo goes to the literary programs in Rosarito and there is no money spent on overhead.

And remember, Friends of the Library is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so all donations are U.S. tax deductible.

And there are perks. Sponsor’s names are printed in each donated book, you will get an invitation to attend special events, including a reading session at the sponsored school,  you will get public recognition at the Panchito Cup Jeopardy style tournament finale to be held next February 19, and an invitation to the December 3 meet-and-greet with this year’s author Viola Canales, who wrote The Tequila Worm.

The contest features appetizers and a no host bar, hosted by the FOL at John Hall Furniture store, on the Boulevard, south of Pemex/7-11.
