Los Cabos Humane Society needs help.

As our loyal readers know, there is an abundance of street doggies and kitties in Los Cabos, and there are several organizations and individuals devoting time and money to rescue them and find them a good home.

The oldest one is the Los Cabos Humane Society (LCHS), located around the corner from the La Roca motel on the road to Todos Santos. During our last visit, they were housing over 70 dogs and 20 kitties, who are being fed thanks to gracious donations. They actually have a small bodega stacked to the top with kitty and doggie food. What they lack is cat litter, cleaning supplies and money to maintain the organization’s installations. If you find in your heart to donate, contact them at LCHS Animal Center (Bilingual) office phone number 624-143-3947.

Robert de Niro in Cabo this November!

The 8th International Film festival has announced that Oscar-winning actor Robert de Niro will be in Cabo for its official inauguration and the Latin American premiere of “the Irishman,” the Martin Scorsese movie that de Niro stars in with his friend and also Oscar winner Al Pacino. The cast includes such big names as Anna Paquin, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and Jesse Plemons.

The movie, which will be shown at the Cultural Pavilion in the Cabo marina, lasts 3 hours and 29 minutes, but so far no complaints have been posted. Rotten Tomatoes says: “Reviews out of the movie’s opening-night premiere at the New York Film Festival are resoundingly positive in that regard. Not even the length or the notorious de-ageing special effects can hold down what’s being called one of Scorsese’s best.”

Do you want soy with that burger?

A recent study published by the Mexican consumer agency (PROFECO) reported that some of the frozen patties found in the local stores include up to 28 percent soy protein and some don’t even tell you, in fact, they could only find two brands that were made with 100 percent beef, those were SuKarne and Marketside.

The study also found most of the ones that advertise in their packaging that they are using a specific cut of meat like sirloin or skirt steak, to make their beef patties were not able to demonstrate it to PROFECO authorities.

From 35 brands tested, 13 were deemed to be misleading for not disclosing soy and other ingredients in their packaging. Most of the others also use soy, but it was labeled correctly in their packaging.
