Wednesday, May 1, Labor Day. Expect a union's workers parade in your town. The official holiday, employees must take the day off or be paid triple salary. Many government offices, banks, schools, some stores and offices will be closed.

May 3 – 5. XXVI DOS MARES 500. One of the most iconic Off-road races in the state. La Paz. Friday 4:00 pm. at the Malecon. The race starts on Sunday at 8:00 am.

Saturday, May 5. Sinko de Mayo. Mexico celebrates their triumph over the French Army in Puebla, central Mexico. Not, it’s not Mexico’s Independence day Bunky, that’s on September 16.

May 5, Sunday. Cinco de Mayo Sand Castle Competition. 12:00 noon til… the party stops. At the VidaSoul hotel and Crossroads restaurant in Vinorama, the East Cape. Friday, May 10. Mother’s Day in Mexico. Some employers give working mothers the day off or at least treat them to lunch or flowers.

Friday, May 17. 5:30 pm. Drink for a good cause. Wine tasting at Hierbabuena Hortaliza farm-to-table restaurant (one of this writers’ fav) in Pescadero. May 17 to 19. Gastrovino Festival. Todos Santos. For a good cause. Kicks off with a blind tasting contest on Saturday May 19, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Ticket buyers will enjoy 9 different wines to choose 3 winners. Then at 6:00 pm, the GastroTour will take place departing from the Hotel California. The tour takes 3 hours visiting some of the best restaurants in Todos Santos and sampling their gastronomic creations. The fest closes with a fun-filled party in the main plaza o Todos Santos, with food booths from at least 20 restaurants, wine from different wineries from Valle de Guadalupe in Northern Baja, live shows and live music. June 1 – 4. The Probemos Mexico (Let’s taste Mexico) national congress of Gastronomy and culture. A food fest with recipes of the 32 states of Mexico, featuring 32 traditional female chefs who will prepare the most iconic meal of their state. The lady chefs will present more than 192 traditional dishes and beverages at the Delmar international school located here in El Tezal. Folk music and 200 exhibitors selling Mexican traditional products, workshops, conferences and shows.

July 20, Saturday. 15th Annual East Cape Dorado Shoot Out. Van Wormer resorts in Los Barriles, East Cape. Over $200K in cash and prizes.
