The Cerritos Beach Cerveza Corona Pacifico Surf Open will bring together surfers from more than a dozen countries to southern Baja California Sur this month. Endorsed by the World Surf League (WSL), the Cerritos Surf Open marks the first competition of its kind in the small community located between Todos Santos and Pescadero.
The four-day contest is scheduled for November 20 – 23. According to the Municipal Tourism Directorate, it will be the first WSL sanctioned tournament ever held on this South Californian beach, a milestone that underscores the region’s growing presence on the international surfing circuit.
Surfers from 13 countries will gather on the shores of El Pescadero for the event, described as an important platform for emerging talent from Mexico and abroad. With its consistent waves and vibrant surf culture, Playa Cerritos is increasingly recognized as a national surfing hub, supported by a community committed to athletic development and environmental stewardship.
The tournament is backed by the Baja California Sur Surf Association, the State Tourism Secretariat, and the Tourism Trust (FITUES), in coordination with the La Paz City Council. Together, organizers aim to boost the state’s profile in global sports tourism while emphasizing sustainability as a central value.
A key initiative during the competition will be the “Surf Without Plastic” campaign, featuring beach cleanups, educational activities, and the creation of a surfboard built entirely from recycled plastic. The effort is being carried out in collaboration with internationally recognized surf figures such as Gary Linden. Organizers say the event is not only a contest but also a call to action for environmental awareness and ocean conservation.
Barracuda Cantina has been confirmed as an official sponsor, highlighting strong local business support for what has become a recurring highlight on the state’s sporting calendar. The 2025 QS1000 contest, also sanctioned by the WSL, is expected to draw elite surfers eager to take on Cerritos’ renowned waves.
Returning competitors include Lucas Cassity, whose breakout performance last year brought him close to qualifying for the Challenger Series, and Coral Bonilla, determined to defend her title on her home break. Both athletes reflect the high level of talent the event seeks to showcase, and the deep connection between Baja California Sur surfers and their local waters.
The Cerritos Beach Cerveza Corona Pacifico Surf Open is more than a competition. It is a celebration of sport, community, and environmental responsibility, an event that continues to strengthen Baja California Sur’s place on the global map for surfing, sustainability, and coastal tourism.
