Gleaming, Immaculate, and Spotless!

Beaches in BCS are ready and in optimal condition for Holy Week visitors!

The beaches in Baja California Sur that typically receive the highest number of visitors have been thoroughly inspected and are in optimal sanitary condition for recreational use during the spring vacation period. This was confirmed through laboratory analyses of seawater samples collected by COEPRIS (State Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks) across 39 coastal areas.

The sample tests, conducted as part of the Mexican government’s Clean Beaches programestablished in coordination with state health authorities and the National Institute of Public Health were processed by the State Public Health Laboratory, a federally certified facility known for reliable analytical procedures, according to the agency’s head, Ethna García.

As outlined by the World Health Organization, a beach is in optimal sanitary condition when its seawater contains no more than 200 enterococcus units per 100 milliliters (NPM/100 ml). The most recent samples from BCS, collected over the past two weeks, showed an average of just 10 NPM indicating excellent water quality, García noted.

These monitoring efforts take a preventive approach, aiming to ensure that beachgoers can make informed decisions about where to swim, something that clearly favors the beaches of Baja California Sur.

García added that anyone interested in the results, not just in BCS but across all coastal regions, can access the federal report. (Spanish only) https://www.gob.mx/cofepris/documentos/monitoreo-prevacacional-de-playas-semana-santa-2025?state=draft
