This is great news for fishermen

La Paz Mayor Milena Quiroga announced the kick-off of a partnership with Chedraui supermarkets to enhance the distribution of local fish products within the municipality, starting this week. “This is a great achievement for Baja California Sur producers, particularly in the seafood sector, and we will keep working to ensure that more local products can be offered here. We aim to create more opportunities to showcase what is produced locally,” she stated.

She emphasized that this initiative is a step towards bolstering the local economy, allowing seafood harvested from the North Pacific to become available for purchase in La Paz. During her visit to the “El Progreso” cooperative in La Bocana, she witnessed the dedication of fishermen who process seafood for national and international markets. Products include vacuum-packed sole, sea bass fillet, sea bass slices, grouper, frozen raw octopus, and cooked octopus.

“El Güero” Verdugo, a representative from the “El Progreso” fishing cooperative, conveyed that this partnership represents a fantastic opportunity for producers in the central peninsula and North Pacific, especially those with quality certifications, who respect closed fishing seasons and comply with minimum sizes for species, to ensure the sustainability of resources.

Ultimately, Quiroga Romero highlighted that the current shifts in export and import dynamics call for a reevaluation of how to strengthen the local economy. Initiatives like this promote domestic consumption and contribute to economic growth in the state.

The current changes in export and import dynamics show the need to strengthen the local economy. Therefore, these initiatives allow for the promotion of domestic consumption, which will foster economic growth in the state.
