The Sailor and Fisherman Festival will take place June 13 in Cabo San Lucas, featuring family activities and a costume contest that promotes environmental awareness using recycled materials.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. in Amelia Wilkes Ceseña Plaza, according to Cabo San Lucas Municipal Delegate Karina de la O.
Organizers say the festival is designed to strengthen family ties, celebrate the region’s fishing and maritime heritage, and encourage respect for the environment.
Marine Costume Contest and Environmental Focus
A highlight of the event will be the Marine Costume Contest, open to fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade elementary school students. Participants will create costumes from recycled materials and portray sea-related characters and species, including sailors, captains, lifeguards, fish, sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, mermaids, and starfish.
“This festival seeks to connect families with the community’s maritime traditions while promoting respect for the oceans and the protection of marine ecosystems through various activities,” De la O said.
The contest is intended to encourage creativity, resourcefulness, and the reuse of materials while fostering environmentally responsible practices among young participants.
Residents and visitors are invited to attend the celebration and take part in activities planned for children, teenagers, and adults.
