The Los Cabos Municipal Sports Institute (INDEM) has announced a new Saturday swimming program for beginner children, set to launch January 10, 2026, at the Don Koll Olympic Pool in Cabo San Lucas. Two class times will be offered, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., to accommodate growing community demand for youth sports programs.
The initiative aims to promote physical activity from an early age while teaching essential water safety skills, discipline, and coordination. Swimming is widely recognized as a life-saving skill, especially in coastal communities like Los Cabos, where contact with water is part of daily life.
Studies show that formal swimming lessons can reduce drowning risks by up to 88% for children ages one to four. Experts also emphasize that structured lessons support both physical and cognitive development, helping young swimmers improve balance, motor skills, and confidence through guided group activities.
According to the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, children between three and five years old can safely begin learning basic aquatic skills that enhance comfort and safety in the water.
“We continue to strengthen the municipal sports program by providing appropriate facilities, qualified instructors, and structured teaching plans,” an INDEM spokesperson said. “Swimming contributes significantly to children’s physical, emotional, and social well-being.”
Space is limited, and parents are encouraged to register early. For more information, call (624) 138-5141.
