The landscapes of Baja California Sur have long been a defining part of the region’s allure. Now, imagine these breathtaking vistas brought to life on a vibrant canvas.

The stunning art exhibition Tierra Adentro Entre Las Aguas (Inland Among the Waters) is being showcased at the University Cultural Polyforum in Los Cabos, located on Avenida de la Juventud. This cultural space, part of the University of Baja California Sur (UABCS), hosts various academic, cultural, and recreational activities for the community. The exhibition will be open to the public from today until April 11th.

Margarita Ruiz Reyes, a graduate of the National School of Fine Arts at Mexico City University, explains that her artwork embodies the essence of Baja California Sur, a region that has served as her inspiration due to its striking desert landscapes and unique natural beauty.

“Ten years ago, I visited the university, and now I return with great joy to share this collection. For me, living in this state is a privilege, and my work is a way of expressing my gratitude,” the artist remarked.

She also emphasized the importance of educational spaces in fostering culture and artistic expression. She believes that art is an essential part of life and that universities should be filled with creative works, as creativity is fundamental to human development. “Seeing, feeling, and experiencing art helps us better understand the world around us,” she noted.

Dr. Dante Salgado, Rector of UABCS, highlighted the significance of such artistic initiatives within the university. He stressed that art plays a crucial role in shaping compassionate and socially engaged citizens.

He further stated that artistic expression not only contributes to students’ emotional well-being but also strengthens the community, serving as a reminder that the university has both soul and spirit.

Finally, he expressed his gratitude for the invaluable contributions of Margarita Ruiz Reyes and photographer Aníbal Angulo, acknowledging how their work has enriched the university’s spaces. Their efforts reaffirm UABCS’s commitment to culture and the holistic well-being of its community.
