L’Étape La Paz Tour de France Starts This Sunday, March 30th

This exciting event will bring together thousands of national and international competitors, as well as cycling enthusiasts. L’Étape La Paz is part of the L’Étape México by Tour de France series, which includes events in Mexico City, Cancún, and San Luis Potosí. The series is well known for its significance in the cycling world, with the Tour de France being the most prestigious event since its inception in 1903.

In 2024, over 3,000 cyclists participated in Mexico, and participation is expected to rise in 2025, particularly in La Paz with its outstanding routes that merge the beauty of the sea and desert landscapes. Last year more than 1,200 cyclists participated, including local, national and foreign cyclists.

Cyclists of all levels, from amateurs to professionals, can join L’Étape La Paz, if they meet certain physical requirements based on their chosen distance. The minimum age for participants is to be 18 years old by December 31st of the race year, which influences category assignments.

Participants can select from various distances, ensuring an option that fits their skill level. There’s also a couple’s category allowing male and female competitors to enter together, if they finish within a minute of each other, with their times are combined.

The event offers a unique experience for cycling fans to engage in a premier competition. La Paz, BCS, is an attractive location with stunning views of El Tecolote and Pichilingue beaches, mangroves, and semi-desert mountains.

The meeting point is at the Kiosk on the boardwalk at 5:00 a.m.

The official race starts at 6:30 a.m. for long and short routes and at 7:00 a.m. for the sprint option.

The race features three routes:

1. Long Route: 126.5 kilometers with an altitude of 1,172 meters above sea level and a time limit of 5 hours 15 minutes.

2. Short Route :73.8 kilometers, at an altitude of 529 meters, and a maximum time of 3 hours 30 minutes.

3. Sprint Route: 30 kilometers designed for beginners, 423 meters altitude, and a maximum time of 3 hours.

Refreshments will be available along the routes with water, isotonic drinks, snacks, and medical services. Mechanical assistance will be provided via support motorcycles and aid stations.

Cyclist Humberto Ávila, a member of the “Trilocos Baja Sur” team, shares his insights from previous editions, including the importance of preparation, starting training at least five months in advance is ideal. He encourages newbies to begin cycling, emphasizing the beauty of La Paz’s routes and the welcoming nature of the cycling community.

Participants will receive a registration kit that includes a Santini jersey, race number, sports bag, timing chip, medal, and a digital participation certificate.

Kit distribution is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Kiosk on the boardwalk.

Digital check-in before arrival is recommended, and participants should bring an official ID and a QR code.

The awards ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. for overall winners and 11:30 a.m. for category winners.

After the event, the road will reopen at 1:00 p.m., and there won’t be a cloakroom, so cyclists should only bring essentials.
