Through social networks a concerned citizen, set a complaint through social networks regarding a property was completely fenced with a “Private Property” sign. The treasurer of the La Paz City Council, Jassiel Enríquez. said: “Obviously, at first glance, you can see that it is within the federal zone”. After an investigation in the cadastral records he mentioned that although the property has been registered as private property for more than 30 years, the latest update of the delimitation carried out by SEMARNAT (Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources) revealed that a large part of the land (80%) is located in the federal zone”

“We, the representatives of the City Council of La Paz, filed a complaint from the Federal Authority, in this case, which is PROFEPA, the (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) in Mexico so that the inspection and surveillance process can be carried out and measures taken.” he assured.
The complaint filed with PROFEPA seeks to carry out an inspection and take the necessary measures to guarantee free access to the beaches and natural resources of the region. Possible actions include imposing fines and removing the fence that currently prevents access. “We as the City Council are going to take all actions together with SEMARNAT and PROFEPA so that this federal area is protected and the right of free access is given to all citizens,” said the treasurer.
Finally, the La Paz City Council has emphasized that it will continue with all thenecessary inspections and administrative procedures so that the federal maritime land zone is respected, and free access is guaranteed to all citizens. “We are going to reach the ultimate consequences to guarantee this right that all citizens lose,” Enriquez concluded.
