No Private Beaches Here: Miscommunication Sparks Outrage in La Paz

The government said: Sorry! It was a Misunderstanding. Yeah right!!!

After pointing out the marketing error committed by the real estate construction company, Narciso Agúndez said, “The beach area in front of the Almar development, located in the El Manglito neighborhood, in the city of La Paz, will not be privatized.”

He clarified that neither the State Government nor the API-BCS authorized a transfer of “private beach” in said area. Therefore, it will be ensured that access to the beach is guaranteed to all people, for the peace of mind of the citizens of South California and because it is the law.

Agúndez commented that this beach is a key recreational space for riverside fishermen, families and athletes.

Likewise, he warned that, if said error by the construction company is not fixed and clarified right away, they will have sanctions such as suspension of construction.

He reported that the problem was due to a misunderstanding in the marketing department’s translation, which offered a beachfront property as “private beach”. Given the unrest generated among citizens, the director of API-BCS met with the real estate developer to clarify the situation.

“No company has permits to privatize access to public beaches and such advertising must be corrected immediately,” he said.

Finally, he added that the Urban Image Regulation of La Paz and the federal standard establish that the ZOFEMAT (Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone), includes a 20-meter (65.6168 ft) strip next to the beaches, and is for public use, inalienable and imprescriptible. Stay Tuned!
