In 2024, the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department responded to 3,893 emergency calls, marking an increase of 700 from the previous year. As the population grows, reaching emergencies becomes increasingly challenging due to limited alternate routes and congestion during peak hours.
Captain Hugo Ulises Sandoval of the Operations Battalion shared that out of the total emergencies, 1,762 were pre-hospital ambulance services. The breakdown includes 350 calls for illnesses, 323 vehicular collisions, 218 falls, 141 cases of unconscious individuals, 77 fires, and various other incidents.
The extinguishing and rescue units handled 2,132 calls, including 843 fires, 458 vehicle collisions, 138 gas leaks, 89 animal rescues, 25 snake relocations, and 74 supports to the pre-hospital ambulance unit.
Supporting the 45 paid staff of the Operations Battalion are numerous volunteers, along with personnel dedicated to Preventive Education, Inspections, Investigation, Training, and Administrative duties.
Cabo San Lucas boasts three dispatch centers: the main station in El Médano, a service station in Lomas del Sol, and another station on the road to Todos Santos (Cabo Hills). The department is equipped with 3 ambulances, 5 support vehicles, 1 rescue vehicle, 2 ladder machines, and 10 fire extinguishing machines—only 3 of which are first response units.
