Before stepping down with the change of President in Mexico, Miguel Torruco, now the former Secretary of Tourism, revealed some impressive numbers. During his time in office, 2.468 million Canadian tourists visited Mexico, marking an impressive 14.5 percent increase compared to 2018, when he began his tenure.
And these Canucks, often known for their careful spending, weren’t as “austere” as they are thought to be. They spent a whopping $2.8 billion USD during their visits, showing an increase of 39.3 percent compared to 2018.
Just in the first 7 months of this year, 1.7 million Canadian travelers arrived by plane from 25 different cities, including Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, and even a few from Lloydminster.
The most visited Mexican spots were Los Cabos, Cancun, Mexico City, Cozumel, Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Mazatlán, Tulum, and Huatulco.
Torruco credited this impressive boost to his successful “Toca Puertas” (Knock on Doors) promotional program. Way to go!
