President AMLO Wants to Disband Fonatur

The Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo, which was founded in 1974 to create new tourism destinations (Cancun, Los Cabos, Ixtapa, Loreto, Huatulco and Nayarit) might be dissolved. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wants to convert the 16,414 hectares still undeveloped into Natural Protected Areas. Our Southern Baja state has almost half (8,064.69 hectares) of the Fonatur’s undeveloped land. Mexico has 90.8 million hectares of natural protected areas. Stay tuned.
