On August 1, Cabo’s East Cape will officially become home to something it has never had before: an Aman resort. For those unfamiliar with the brand, Aman is widely considered one of the world’s most exclusive hotel groups, with room rates that can make even seasoned luxury travelers blink twice. Now it is here, and the question is not just what it offers, but what it says about where Los Cabos is headed.
The new property, called Amanvari, sits within the Costa Palmas development on the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula. It is Aman’s first resort in Mexico, a distinction the company clearly does not take lightly. The setting is deliberately remote—mountains, estuary, desert, and a stretch of white sand beach. According to Aman’s own description, the resort is designed as a “peaceful, privileged oasis” where solitude and belonging coexist. Translation: you will pay for privacy, and you will get it.
The accommodations include both hotel suites and private Aman Residences. Guests will have access to multiple dining venues, an Aman Spa, and all the amenities of Costa Palmas, including the Robert Trent Jones II golf course and three kilometers of beachfront. Residence owners can join the Beach & Yacht Club. The transfer from San José del Cabo airport takes 45 to 60 minutes by car, or 15 minutes by helicopter, which tells you something about the clientele Aman expects.
So what does a night at Amanvari cost? Reports from El Universal describe it as one of the most expensive hotels in the world. Their website reports prices per night anywhere from $3,877 to $6,161 USD. This is not a resort for spontaneous weekend trips or promotional discount codes.
The opening adds another layer to Los Cabos’ ongoing transformation into a global luxury hub. The region has already seen a steady parade of high-end brands, from new St. Regis and Grand Hyatt properties to boutique hideaways along the Corridor and in San José. Amanvari takes that momentum a step further, signaling that developers believe there is sustained demand at the ultra-premium tier—not just from American tourists, but from international travelers seeking something more secluded than the traditional Cabo hotel zone.
For local businesses, the resort represents both opportunity and complexity. Aman guests tend to stay on property, which limits spillover into nearby restaurants and shops. But the development as a whole—Costa Palmas—has the potential to drive infrastructure improvements and draw attention to the still-underdeveloped East Cape. Whether that translates into broad economic benefit or simply creates a walled garden for the ultra-wealthy remains to be seen.
The other question is whether Amanvari can maintain its brand promise in a region that is rapidly building out its luxury inventory. Aman’s reputation depends on exclusivity, design precision, and flawless service. Those things are easier to control in remote corners of Bhutan or Indonesia than in a destination where construction cranes are visible from the highway and water infrastructure is still catching up to demand.
Still, if any brand has the discipline to pull it off, Aman does. The company has spent decades perfecting a formula that turns hospitality into something closer to lifestyle curation. Guests do not just book a room—they buy into an identity. And in Los Cabos, where the gap between mass tourism and high-end hideaways continues to widen, that identity now has a home on the East Cape.
