When Is the Best Time to Install Solar Panels on your Real Estate in Cabo?

Dinosaurs, humans, insects, plants, my puppies, and pretty much everything else would never have existed without the Sun and our specific proximity to this G-Class Star. Did you know the Milky Way galaxy is speckled with 40 Billon stars that are very similar to our Sun? Kepler satellite, powered using solar panels, actually observes these Sun-like stars to discover potentially habitable planets.

There are hundreds of billions of planets in the Milky Way Galaxy (and over 100 Billion OTHER galaxies besides the Milky Way). So, how do we determine if any of those planets have liquid and life like Earth?

The Kepler search for Earth 2.0 starts in our Milky Way galaxy, and employs an Earth Similarity Index which characterizes suitability for vegetation, rockiness, and atmospheric density. A planet must also be a certain distance from its star, orbiting in The Habitable Distance, or Goldilocks Zone.

Considering goldilocks and the three bears can live there, so can other life.  In July 2015 scientist announced the discovery of the most similar Earth-planet, so far. It may have volcanoes, oceans, and a 385 day year. The planet is 1,400 light years away. Using conventional fuel and spaceships 1 light year requires 20,000 years to travel. However, breakthroughs in interstellar travel condense the travel of 1 light year to only 4.3 years.  In 100 years or so, we may even be able to commute back and forth from these Earth-like planets all across the galaxy or even Universe(s), if that’s your cup of tea.

OK. So let’s get back to our solar system, our Sun, Earth, and our Cabo. Did you know the Sun is directly responsible for weather, waves, tides, earthquakes, sunburn, and of course electricity?

In fact, the Sun is so massive we can hypothetically fit 1.3 million Earths inside of it, and the Sun can convert 4 million tons of matter into energy in one single second. That’s important because the population is growing and solar energy is an inevitable reality.

Case in point, the world population surpasses 7.3 billion, and today alone around 280,000 people will be born. That´s equal to Cabo´s population…in one day.

Despite exponential population growth, the Sun´s got our back.  A recent study calculates all the energy used by man since the dawn of civilization is roughly equal to only 30 days of the sun’s energy.

Somebody has to say it - the sun is the shiznizzle…

SOLAR IN LOS CABOS: When is best to install Solar on My Home and Why?

WHO: You live here 6-12 months and use AC in the summer.

WHEN: November-December is best for full timers to Install Solar.

WHY: You likely just racked up compounding CFE bills due to your AC consumption and you pay double what you could and should pay for each unit of energy you consume. On October 15th the proverbial light switch is flipped, and Cabo cools off overnight.

Imagine you already have solar panels and October rolls around. Less AC use translates to WAY less energy use (kWh/day). So during winter, solar panels on your roof begin to generate a credit of solar energy that you see add up on the bottom right column of your CFE bill.  Like an old cell phone plan, this credit rolls over on each bill, and offsets your high summer AC bills. This cycle repeats each year. With as few as 4-8 solar panels, a typical solar client who paid $70,000 Pesos/year will now pay around $12,000 Pesos/year with solar panels by leaving the expensive DAC rate bracket.

WHO: You vacation rent your home or visit your second home in Cabo.

WHEN: October, November & February, April, May

WHY: Solar Pool Heating makes a ton of sense for business minded owners who vacation rent their home. Solar Pool Heating reduces 88%-100% of propane costs, and vacation rentals always have to heat their pool. October is best to install pool heating because pools inherently cool off in November. Payback on solar pool heating is 1-2 years.

Likewise, reduce your CFE bills by 70%-90% with On Grid Solar, depending on the size of the home and subsequent energy consumption. Many vacation rentals are empty during the summer months and this is a perfect time to generate a solar credit on your CFE bill so that when the home is occupied renters are actually consuming banked solar energy.

The solar installation only requires 1-3 days and the sooner you install solar, the sooner you protect your investment from energy from reckless renters and reduce the cost of operating your home in Cabo.
