Hurricane Season 2025 Officially Begins May 15th

And the Names Are Already Chosen

With two and a half months to go before the start of the 2025 Pacific hurricane season, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has already announced the official list of names assigned to tropical cyclones that will form in the waters off the western coast of Mexico.

In the Pacific region, the hurricane season begins on May 15 and lasts until November 30.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), this season is expected to bring multiple tropical cyclones, some of which may develop into tropical storms or hurricanes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts that hurricane activity in 2025 will be at or above the historical average.

The names assigned to hurricanes in the 2025 season are:

Alvin, Bárbara, Cosme, Dalila, Erick, Flossie, Gil, Henriette, Ivo, Juliette, Kiko, Lorena, Mario, Narda, Octava, Priscilla, Raymond, Sonia, Tico, Velma, Wallis, Xina, York, and Zelda.

As in previous years, Civil Protection authorities have issued important recommendations for the public in case of a hurricane threat in 2025:

  • Stay Informed: Regularly check official sources such as the National Meteorological System (SMN) and Civil Protection updates.
  • Protect Your Home: Repair or reinforce building structures to minimize damage.
  • Plan Evacuation Routes: Identify safety zones and locate shelters, especially for residents in vulnerable areas.
  • Prepare an Emergency Kit: Have essential supplies ready, including drinking water, batteries, flashlights, first aid items, and non-perishable food.

Being informed and prepared is key to staying safe during the hurricane season.
