Construction of the overpass at the Fonatur roundabout, officially known as Las Mujeres Libres, will be suspended during Holy Week. It began on March 29 and will end Sunday, April 5. Municipal authorities and the construction companies agreed to pause work over the Easter weekend.
The project is expected to open in late May 2026, once aesthetic and safety details are completed. In a message on social media, Mayor Christian Agúndez said all vehicular access points near the roundabout will reopen next weekend, except for the entrance to the Mañanitasarea.
The partial reopening is intended to ease congestion on the Transpeninsular Highway, improving access for residents and tourists traveling to the hotel zone and downtown.
Upgrading the Fonatur roundabout has long been a priority for Los Cabos residents, as the intersection handles thousands of vehicles daily and connects the airport with the tourist corridor. Officials say the overpass is expected to cut travel times by up to 40 percent once fully operational.
Authorities urged drivers to use caution in the area, obey speed limits and follow directions from traffic personnel.
