It’s official: Los Cabos will host both the start and finish of the Baja 1000 in 2026. The legendary off-road race is set to begin on November 13 of next year, with the route still being finalized. According to SCORE International, the course will start and end in San José del Cabo.
The announcement follows an agreement signed between SCORE International and the Los Cabos City Council, bringing the 59th edition of the Baja 1000 to San José for the first time in history.
Pre-race courses for drivers will open October 31, 2026. The official route is expected to stretch between 800 and 900 miles, though the exact distance has yet to be determined. Motorcycles will start at dawn, followed by cars later in the day, in what organizers say will be an unprecedented spectacle.
Officials expect the race to generate millions of dollars in economic and tourism revenue, with benefits extending beyond Los Cabos to the municipalities of La Paz, Loreto, Mulegé and Comondú.
Mayor Agúndez said the municipality is prepared to provide security, civil protection and media coverage for the event. Hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores and transportation services have already begun receiving reservations from competing teams. The mayor also noted that extensive hiring of local workers is expected for mechanics, security, logistics and hospitality. “It’s a historic and momentous event that puts Los Cabos in the spotlight of the world,” he said.
Organizers added that they will encourage the participation of Southern Californian drivers. The Baja 1000, now in its sixth decade, is considered the world’s premier off-road competition, attracting IndyCar, NASCAR, Formula 1 and Dakar Rally drivers. Beyond the race itself, SCORE promotes Mexico and Baja California Sur through live broadcasts, digital magazines and documentaries such as Surviving Baja, watched by millions worldwide.
The official call for entries will be published in January 2026. For fans and competitors alike, the Baja 1000 remains more than a race. It’s an adventure.
