Hurricane Priscilla Brings Rain to Baja Sur

Get your umbrellas ready — Hurricane Priscilla is spinning her way up the Pacific, and Baja California Sur is in for some wet days ahead.

As of Monday morning, Priscilla is packing sustained winds of 85 mph and moving north-northwest at just 5 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is expected to remain offshore but will push heavy rain, strong winds, and choppy seas toward the southern tip of the peninsula later this week.

Forecast models show Priscilla tracking parallel to the Baja coast through Thursday, gradually weakening as she moves into cooler waters. Still, residents and travelers from Los Cabos to La Paz should expect periods of heavy rain and possible flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Local authorities are advising caution for anyone driving along the Transpeninsular Highway, as slick roads and minor washouts are possible. Fishermen and boaters are also urged to keep a close eye on port updates and avoid venturing out as conditions worsen midweek.

If you’ve been waiting for a good excuse to stay in, watch the waves, and open that extra bottle of wine — this is it.
