“The Flower of Development” (yes, that’s what it’s supposed to be) is a monument in San José that will be moved for the third time because of road works. This monument, besides being a symbol of FONATUR (National Development Fund), is part of the city’s visual identity.
Built in 1999, the sculpture has been part of the urban landscape and a welcome to Los Cabos for more than twenty years.
Yellow and facing the airport, its first transformation occurred in 2012 for the G-20 Summit, when it was turned toward the Convention Center and painted blue and indigo, the colors of that event.
Now, in 2025, the sculpture will be moved again as part of the construction of the bridge and overpasses in the FONATUR area.
So far, authorities haven’t revealed exactly where it will go. Andrés Liceaga, a council member for the Green Ecologist Party, said that the new location “will be a surprise for everyone” and that the final spot will be announced later this week.
However, unofficial sources suggest that “The Flower of Development” will likely be placed closer to the bypass, near the toll booths.
