Take a deep breath
The project will be carried out in two phases. The first phase entails the construction of two lanes, sidewalks, curbing, and street lighting, commencing on June 24 and slated for completion within 150 days.
This crucial roadway spans approximately 2 kilometers and connects the Guaymitas and Santa Rosa neighborhoods with Centenario Avenue in downtown San José.
Concerns have been voiced by residents regarding traffic disruptions tied to the ongoing construction of an underpass at the Fonatur roundabout.

The closure of this alternate route to the Transpeninsular Highway, commonly used to access the city’s main square, has caused significant apprehension.
In response, the mayor decisively stated, “Many projects are coming up, and what we must do is inform the people; we can promote alternative routes and keep in mind that in the end, we will be much better off in terms of mobility. If we don’t do it now, then when?”
Municipal authorities are proactively developing alternate routes in this area to mitigate the current challenges faced and will announce these solutions shortly.
The second phase of the project is set to be completed in 2026, which will enhance the roadway further by adding two additional traffic lanes, a bike lane, and a median strip. Stay tuned!
