Bringing Care to Your Doorstep
The program “Salud Casa por Casa” (House to House Health Program) in Mexico provides free, in-home medical care to older adults and people with disabilities who are beneficiaries of the Government’s Welfare Programs. This initiative involves regular visits from trained healthcare professionals who assess health conditions, provide preventative and primary care, and facilitate referrals to higher levels of care when needed.
Governor Castro participated in the kick-off of this campaign, which seeks to benefit more than 1.8 million seniors and people with disabilities. In Baja California, more than 70,000 people with disabilities will receive free, comprehensive medical care in their homes.
“The program will bring services directly to the area, with a very personal, humanistic, and dignified approach,” Castro emphasized.
In the region, the plan has 95 health professionals, including nurses and doctors.
The call remains open, especially in the north of the state, where personnel are needed to meet the goal of visiting and caring for older adults in the region or those living with some type of disability.
Currently, Baja California Sur has registered 45,000 visits, and it is also expected to meet the goal of 70,000 citizens who require assistance.
During these visits, they evaluate vital signs, conduct basic tests (like blood pressure checks), and provide basic medical care (like wound care).
The Governor acknowledged the altruistic work carried out by doctors and nurses through this program and urged them to provide medical care with compassion. “It’s not just about going to a home; it’s about caring for the neediest, the most vulnerable people,” he said.
The program emphasizes preventative care, health education, and empowering individuals to manage their health by themselves.
