The Baja California Sur Peninsula is the Place Where Cell Phones Are Used the Most in All of Mexico

Since last year, Baja California Sur has ranked as the state with the second-highest percentage of cell phone users in Mexico at 89.2%. It follows closely behind its neighbor, Baja California, which leads with 89.4%, and ahead of Mexico City at 88.3%. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 89% of residents in Baja California Sur use smartphones in their daily lives.

Cell phones are primarily used for entertainment, based on survey data from 595,243 residents. Additionally, 340,932 people reported using them for work-related tasks, 165,215 for schoolwork, and 121,008 for independent learning.

In total, 702,302 individuals use their phones to stay in touch with others. Beyond communication, 136,104 people use their phones for gaming, 135,206 for accessing audio and video content, and 114,163 for engaging with social media. Another 102,462 use them to purchase goods and services, 86,853 for mobile banking, 76,674 for photo or video editing, and 20,710 for other applications.

Smartphones are the most widely used devices, with 693,761 users. In comparison, 28,719 people use basic cell phones, and 549 use both types. Among those surveyed, 702,302 use their phones for communication, 244,254 for buying goods or services, and 67,244 for selling online.

Most cell phone users in the state are high school or college students, totaling 382,820. Economically active individuals make up 475,262 of the users, while 174,446 are economically inactive.

For many, cell phones have become indispensable. They are no longer just for making calls, they now play a central role in daily life. From waking up to an alarm clock to sending instant messages, handling work tasks, accessing banking, and staying connected on social media, mobile phones support nearly every aspect of the modern routine.
