To Keep the Eastern Cape Coastal Road Open to the Public
As of Wednesday afternoon, 9,750 citizens have signed the petition to “Save the San José del Cabo to Cabo Pulmo Coastal Road” on Change.org, nearing its goal of 10,000 signatures.
The petition, initiated by Juan José Castro, is addressed to the Governor of Baja California, as well as members of the City Council and Congress. On behalf of citizens, residents, visitors, and environmental defenders, it demands that the coastal road connecting San José del Cabo with Cabo Pulmo remains publicly accessible and is not privatizedunder the third update of the Urban Development Program (PDU) of Los Cabos, published on January 20, 2025.

According to organizers, this coastal road is vital for the community, serving tourists, athletes, fishermen, and nature lovers. Beyond being a historical access route, it is also a scenic and ecologically valuable corridor, offering breathtaking views of the region’s natural beauty.
However, they warn that the third update of the PDU proposes changes that could lead to privatization, restricting access to beaches, harming local economies, and prioritizing private interests over the common good.
The petition underscores the importance of keeping the coastal road open and free for all citizens. It urges the Los Cabos City Council to preserve and maintain the road without access restrictions and demands the removal of any PDU provisions that support privatization, ensuring that citizens’ rights to their natural and cultural heritage are upheld.
Finally, the petition calls on the community to support the cause by signing and participating in PDU forums and meetings to demand transparency and fairness.
