Iconic Downtown Cabo Hotel Closes for Good

One of the first four hotels in Cabo San Lucas, owned and operated by the Yee family for some 45 years, is shutting down its doors permanently as of August first. This is maybe the first big loss to Covid-19, as their occupancy dropped dramatically for the past 18 months and hasn’t recovered. It’s a small, quaint, Mexican decorated lodging establishment that many will sorely miss. Hopefully an entrepreneur will buy it and bring it back to life.

So very sorry to see this. The Mar de Cortez and their amazing staff will be missed.💔
This is such sad news. We’ve been coming to Cabo since 1989. The loss of this landmark will be felt.
We have been going here for many years, a little bit of real Mexico, no time share people, great atmosphere, great staff, excellent food, and the price did not burst the budget. That big fruit cart on the corner in the A.M. wow Had so many good times here it’s the end of an era.
If we put a group of investors together, could we save her???
Best hotel in cabo. Sure there nicer more expensive hotels in cabo but you can’t put a number on authenticity and comfort. Staying here brought me back to Mexico’s past when life was simple and less expensive. Fishermen would meet at the pool and tell stories of the days catch, employees went out of their way to help you, they had a large freezer to freeze your catch, and a warm smile whether coming or going. I’m saddened by this news and hope one day soon it will reopen. That is my wish.
