The 2026 Ceviche Contest in San José del Cabo will bring chefs and food enthusiasts together to celebrate local cuisine and offer the public a chance to sample one of the region’s most iconic dishes.
As part of the 2026 San José del Cabo Traditional Festivals, the XV Los Cabos City Council announced the tenth edition of the culinary competition, which aims to highlight regional gastronomy and promote the responsible use of local marine resources.
The event will take place Sunday, March 15, at the Puerto Los Cabos Civic Plaza in the community of La Playa.
Registration is open to professional chefs, culinary students, and amateur cooks who want to present their own version of ceviche. Municipal Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Javier García said the City Council will provide operational support through several departments.
“Coordination with agencies such as Civil Protection will help ensure the safety of all attendees,” García said during the contest’s announcement.
Activities will begin at 11 a.m. with participant registration and the weighing of six kilograms (about 13 pounds) of base product per competitor. A panel of judges will then evaluate each entry based on flavor, presentation, and creativity, as well as the overall setup of each stand.
This year’s competition will award a prize pool of up to 10,000 pesos (about $600), distributed among winners in the Professional and Amateur/Institutional categories.
Participants must meet registration requirements, including submitting a printed recipe and maintaining proper hygiene standards during food preparation.
After the judging concludes, competitors will offer tastings to the public, helping promote local gastronomy and celebrate a long-standing San José del Cabo culinary tradition.
