Elevating Healthcare Standards: A New Era of Medical Excellence is coming to Baja California Sur
In a significant advancement for healthcare in Baja California Sur, Christus Muguerza has launched the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital in Los Cabos. Scheduled to open in 2028, the facility represents a substantial investment of over $100 million USD, underscoring a robust commitment to enhancing medical services for both residents and the millions of tourists visiting the region annually.

Christus Muguerza is part of an international medical network with operations in the United States, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, allowing it to blend global healthcare expertise with local insights. This integration has enhanced Christus Muguerza’s ability to provide high-quality medical services and compassionate care. Furthermore, it has facilitated the expansion of their specialized service offerings to meet the evolving needs of the communities they serve.
Strategically situated between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, the new Christus Muguerza Los Cabos Hospital is set to become a hub for third-level medical care. The hospital will feature cutting-edge technology and sustainable architectural design spread over approximately 255,000 square feet of built area on a site that spans about 314,000 square feet.

The facility is planned to house about 30 medical specialties, including cardiology, oncology, gynecology, pediatrics, and neurosurgery. It will initially offer 72 hospital beds, 44 medical offices, 4 emergency cubicles, and 3 operating rooms, among other critical health services. Furthermore, approximately $24.55 million are allocated for integrating advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence for chest and breast study analysis and a virtual assistant for obstetric nursing.
Horacio Garza Ghio, CEO of Christus Muguerza, emphasized the patient-centric approach of the hospital, aiming to deliver not just physical health care but also addressing emotional and spiritual well-being. The investment will significantly enhance the regional healthcare landscape, positioning the hospital to handle complex medical cases with high efficiency.

The development is not just a healthcare venture but also a significant economic stimulus for the area. Expected to initially create 400 direct jobs and over 1,200 indirect jobs, the hospital will play a pivotal role in boosting local employment and economic growth. When fully operational, it could employ up to 1,300 direct staff.
Local government officials, including José Saúl González Núñez, Secretary-General of the Government of Baja California Sur, have expressed strong support for the project. They recognize its potential to elevate the state’s medical infrastructure from Guerrero Negro to Los Cabos, significantly boosting medical tourism and contributing to economic and social development.
The hospital’s design, crafted by the renowned architect Fernando Romero, incorporates sustainable elements adapted to the local climate. Features include a helipad, solar panels, and innovative facades designed to efficiently manage the intense Baja sun.
As Los Cabos continues to attract a growing number of international visitors and expatriates, the establishment of such a high-caliber medical facility is timely. It promises to not only transform local healthcare but also enhance the overall attractiveness of Baja California Sur as a premier global destination.
