On Cinco de Mayo, a tourist from Hawaii named Liz Savage posted a public complaint on Facebook as she was charged 15% “service charge” automatically on her lunch bill at the Chileno Bay Resort in Los Cabos. As an ALERT to all our followers, we want to inform you that such charge is ILLEGAL, according to article 10 of the Federal Law of Consumer Protection. Gratuities are voluntary and cannot be enforced. PROFECO, the Mexican Commission for Consumer Protection, can issue fines of up to US $93,000 if it happens.
Now you know, you are welcome!
