VIDEO: Bus Fire in Cabo Sends Smoke Signals

If you were near the bullring in Cabo San Lucas this morning and thought you saw smoke signals, you weren’t imagining things. A “Ruta del Desierto” public bus caught fire around 8:40 AM, turning heads—and the sky—a dramatic shade of grey.

The blaze erupted just across from the bullring, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. Thankfully, all passengers and the driver made it off the bus safely, which is the kind of good news we love to report.

Traffic in the area slowed as the fire was extinguished, so if you’re heading that way, maybe go easy on the gas pedal—unless you’re trying to reenact a Fast & Furious scene (please don’t).

We’ll update if more details emerge, but for now, hats off to Cabo’s bomberos for handling the heat—literally.

  1. US Embassy Mexico:

Event: Local media and social media report an emerging security situation in Baja California Sur. Reports include a shootout that spread through several neighborhoods in Cabo San Lucas in the early hours of April 25, three buses set on fire in La Paz and Los Cabos on April 24, the killing of a law enforcement officer and three other homicides on April 22, and the posting of threats against officials by cartels. Expect to see increased security presence, public transportation restrictions, and other actions to manage the situation.
