A New Public Hospital Will Be Built in Cabo San Lucas

It will provide medical services to 414,000 affiliates

During the daily morning press conference, Zoé Robledo, Director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), announced before President Claudia Sheinbaum the construction of seven hospitals across six states, with a total investment of 25 billion pesos. Four of these hospitals, including the one in Los Cabos, are set to begin construction in 2025 once their executive projects are completed.

The Mexican Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) has been assigned to oversee the hospital infrastructure through its military engineering corps, as part of a collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening medical facilities.

The General Hospital of Los Cabos will be a second-level facility, featuring 216 beds and 44 specialties. It will be equipped with advanced medical technology, including MRI, CT scan, X-ray, a breast clinic, a pain clinic, a gamma camera, and a catheterization room. A team of 2,531 specialized medical professionals will manage the hospital.

The hospital will occupy a construction area of 42,000 square meters (452,084.24 sq. ft.) on a five-hectare plot of land donated by the state government.

General Ricardo Trevilla, Secretary of National Defense, expressed that military engineers are honored to contribute to projects that significantly impact the country’s growth and development, leveraging their expertise from previous infrastructure initiatives.

This new hospital will provide much-needed relief to the federal medical services in Cabo San Lucas, as the region’s rapid population growth has exceeded the capacity of the current healthcare facilities.
