Everyone is invited—come on, it will be fun!
Clean Up BCS is a citizen movement in Baja California Sur, Mexico, dedicated to environmental conservation. It primarily focuses on raising awareness about waste management and promoting community clean-up initiatives to protect the local ecosystem and beaches from pollution.
They are inviting everyone to join the State Mega Cleanup (Mega Limpieza Estatal), which will take place on March 30. Participation is voluntary, and residents from Guerrero Negro to Cabo San Lucas have already registered. More than 2,000 participants are expected to collect over 100 tons of garbage from the streets.

Claudia Padilla, director of the association, stated that for four years, volunteer groups have been working primarily to remove garbage and waste from the streets and beaches of Los Cabos. A year ago, they partnered with other associations and authorities, achieving significant impact.
In 2024, 4,000 people participated, collecting 130 tons of garbage in just a few hours. This year, the goal is to surpass those numbers.
“We are calling on all sectors to join. This is a day to raise awareness and protect our seas—everything we throw on the ground eventually ends up in the ocean, and that’s exactly what we want to prevent. It’s important to remember that BCS has no landfills that meet regulations, and the health of our oceans depends on us,” she said.
She also emphasized that BCS is one of the regions that generates the most waste per person per day in the country, producing more than 3.3 pounds of waste daily—almost double the national average of 1.7 pounds.
The event’s dynamics are as follows: Participants can register on the Clean Up BCS website to find designated meeting points. At the end of the cleanup, all collected waste must be placed in a single location so that public service trucks can efficiently remove it.
Crew leaders will be assigned to assess areas requiring the most attention and determine whether heavy machinery intervention is necessary.
Padilla reported that volunteer groups have already registered locally, as well as from other locations such as Loreto and Santa Rosalía. She encouraged more citizens to join this initiative in support of the environment.
