The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez, led the country's large delegation at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid. Over the years it has established itself as the most important in the sector. This year, the large presence of representatives from up to 21 federal states, 12 tourist destinations and hundreds of tour operators and workers who seek to promote tourism in Mexico stands out. The sector recorded historic numbers in visitors, foreign exchange revenue and jobs last year.
This year, there are 9,500 companies from 156 countries at the fairgrounds, many of them tour operators who guide the flow of tourists from one place to another, in addition to promoting themed vacations, such as “great luxury”, wine, rural, gastronomic or cinematographic, among others.
The presence of Mexico is large and occupies a privileged space in the venue. Secretary Rodríguez Zamora herself inaugurated the place, accompanied by the Mexican ambassador to Spain, Quirino Ordaz; secretaries of Tourism; municipal presidents and legislators; and representatives of the private sector.
In her brief speech, Secretary Rodríguez Zamora thanked the “commitment of the representatives of Mexico in this important tourism fair to strengthen it and make tourism a tool that brings well-being to each and every Mexican, and that benefits each of the links of the tourist productive chain.”
In addition, the opening of up to seven new luxury hotels and air connections with more than 60 cities to Los Cabos was announced, with the objective of "consolidating its leadership in the luxury segment in Latin America." Fitur representatives estimate that this year the number of visitors to the fair will exceed 250,000 people, among them 150,000 professionals and curious visitors who enter to learn about a part of each of the countries present.
