La Paz parking lots are under scrutiny as state authorities have begun inspections to ensure compliance with regulations. Many parking spaces don’t meet the required standards, and some are operating without proper permits. In fact, one parking lot has already been slapped with a $250 fine.
These inspections come in response to complaints from residents. Among the key issues: parking lots must display valid permits, which need to be renewed annually.
There are two main types of exclusive parking lots. The first involves dedicated land for multiple vehicles, where each parking space must measure at least 12.5 feet wide by 16.5 feet long. However, dimensions can vary depending on vehicle size. Only 60% of the total lot area is used for parking, while the remaining 40% is designated for vehicle circulation.
The second type allows individuals or businesses to reserve spaces on public roads in front of their properties. Costs for these spaces vary. Individuals pay $20 per linear foot annually, while businesses may pay up to $100 in prime areas.
To legalize their lots, owners must visit the Municipal Transit office with documentation, including ID, proof of address, property receipts, and photos of the space. Renters must also show their lease agreements.
Additionally, marking the exclusive space with painted garrisons costs 1,402 pesos, which must be paid upfront, along with the annual usage fees.
This effort aims to address public concerns and ensure safe, organized parking for all.
