New software will regulate the service of BCS tourist transport companies in our region. This new program will be regulated by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) per a public announcement shared with local media on November 23.
Secretary General of the State Government, Saúl González, reported that progress has been made in the regulation of tourist transportation throughout the state, mainly in Los Cabos, to address differences between the taxi drivers’ union and the other non-taxi transportation companies. There are approximately 200 transportation vehicles that are operating illegally in Los Cabos.
In this context, the state government has held meetings with transport companies and authorities of Los Cabos to define the forms of operation of each mode of transportation, with the aim of avoiding confrontations such as those that have occurred in recent months.
“We have made progress, especially with those who transport tourists to and from the airport, as well as throughout our city, whose work must be standardized. We are going to meet with the transportation sector again and have already approached the new mayor regarding this issue. I think we are doing well. Some things we still have to wait for a while. Some things have already been improved, especially some concerns that the taxi sector had. We are going to work on the topic of Uber, and the new software that the transport companies will implement. We are going to ensure that they know the software. This will give us the guarantee that all pre-contracted services are already updated."
Representative Huerta Leggs presented a legislative agenda for transportation in BCS on November 30th, in which the city councilman announced his priorities for the Transportation Commission, including respect for the rights of carriers and the regulation of local rates.
The main actions for 2025 focus on the demands of the transportation sector and the improvement of the conditions of the transpeninsular highway. Potholes are a major concern as well as the rising number of accidents that have occurred on the highway to and from the airport.
Huerta Leggs pointed out that, despite the recent allocation of 17 million pesos for patching, this amount is insufficient to address the structural problems of the road.
“Evidently, one of the commitments of our president Claudia Sheinbaum is the renewal, maintenance, expansion and even construction of new roads here in the state. Along with Marco Antonio, the head of the SICT, we have been pushing these efforts and agenda, because, as you well know, there was support of 17 million pesos to patch the road; however, we know that is not the solution," said Huerta Leggs.
Regarding road safety on the transpeninsular highway, the Congressman expressed his concern about the increase in accidents. “We are being very responsible with our commission to change what is happening. Although by nature, it is a federal matter, it does not limit us from carrying out the pertinent management and making progress, especially in response to a demand from the transportation groups,” he explained.
In the meantime, paramedics, volunteer firemen and automobile insurance companies will continue staying busy as accidents keep happening day after day.!
