It’s about time!
The long-awaited project for a third road connecting Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo is finally back on the agenda. The Los Cabos Coordinating Council (CCC), in collaboration with authorities from all three levels of government, has announced renewed efforts to address the issue.
Currently, the Tourist Corridor and the Airport Bypass (toll road) are the only two routes between the two cities. Both are overcrowded, causing significant traffic concerns. Following a meeting with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) of Baja California Sur, authorities confirmed that conditions are favorable to explore options for a third road.
According to Julio Castillo, head of the CCC, the initial steps involve working closely with municipal authorities and landowners. The willingness of landowners to make land available has been a crucial factor in moving the project forward. “An agreement of wills has been signed by all parties involved to ensure this project becomes a reality,” said Castillo.
The next steps include discussions with the City Council’s technical team to determine a feasible route for the road. Once the route is defined, efforts will focus on securing the necessary financial resources.
With a strong commitment from all stakeholders, the hope is to deliver this much-needed third road in the medium term. Stay tuned!
