The artificial reef at San Juan de La Costa, just north of La Paz, is thriving beyond expectations! Since its deployment in May 2023, the reef has seen an incredible 500 percent growth in marine life, with 30 different sea species now calling it home. That’s a serious success in just a short time.
What’s even more exciting is that out of those 30 species, 15 can be commercially harvested, offering a huge boost to the local fishing community. This project is not only helping to restore the marine ecosystem but also creating economic opportunities for fishermen in the area.
And it’s not stopping there! Plans are already in motion to deploy 83 more artificial reefs this November, which could further enhance both marine biodiversity and local livelihoods. This is just the beginning of what looks like a sustainable win-win for the environment and the community. Keep an eye on this growing underwater success story!
