The Distrito Malecón project, which aimed to build two 7-storey apartment buildings with commercial spaces, has been halted by a District Court. The court revoked the project due to a lack of information on its impact on the community. This project, once finished, would have included 89 apartments, commercial spaces, and an estimated 280 inhabitants. It was projected to consume over 22,000 gallons of water a day, a demand that La Paz simply cannot afford given our current resources.
This decision is a relief for many residents who were concerned about the strain on local infrastructure and resources. Water scarcity is a significant issue in La Paz, and adding such a large development could have exacerbated the problem. It’s good to see that the court took these concerns seriously and made a decision that prioritizes the community’s well-being.
So, for now, we can breathe a little easier knowing that La Paz’s precious resources are being protected. Thank you, Judge!
