Continuing with the topic of the article published in the last edition titled “Air Connectivity Shapes Los Cabos’ Real Estate Landscape,” the recent developments in Los Cabos’ tourism mark a significant stride toward recovery and growth from the coronavirus pandemic. As of February, Los Cabos has seen a resurgence to pre-pandemic hotel occupancy levels. This revival is a precursor to the anticipated opening of six new luxury hotels between 2024 and 2025.
Among the influx of tourists, a pivotal question arises: how many will view Los Cabos not merely as a holiday destination but as a prime investment opportunity? The region’s luxury tourism boom coupled with real estate expansion presents an enticing proposition for those considering investments in vibrant markets. This evolving perspective could further fuel the area’s economic dynamism, transforming transient visits into long-term investments.
At the Tianguis Turístico, an annual tourism event in Mexico, Mauricio Salicrup, chairman of the Los Cabos Hotels Association (AHLC), highlighted the forthcoming expansion in lodging infrastructure. This growth is not just a response to the recovery but also a step towards accommodating the expected surge in the sector in the coming years. Salicrup specified that these six new hotels would commence operations by the end of 2024 and the early months of 2025, and represent a substantial financial commitment.
An exciting addition to the luxury accommodation sector in Los Cabos is the opening of the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo del Sol, scheduled for May 1. This hotel is set within the Cabo Del Sol community, a locale already known for its premier resorts and golf courses just 15 minutes from downtown Cabo.
The increasing attraction of Los Cabos as a tourist destination is partly quantified by the length of stay of its visitors. Rodrigo Esponda, the general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), shared that the average stay has extended to 7.2 nights from 5 nights in 2017.
Rodrigo said that sustainability is increasingly becoming a priority for tourists, and Los Cabos is adapting to meet these expectations. Efforts towards sustainable tourism practices are being recognized and appreciated by visitors, reinforcing Los Cabos’ commitment to environmental stewardship.
Let’s not forget that Los Cabos is, according to recent numbers, the number four destination in all of Mexico, after Cancún, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta, with almost 225,000 international visitors.
Adding to the buzz, the upcoming introduction of a Condor airline flight from Frankfurt to Los Cabos in November is expected to further boost tourism. This new route is anticipated to bring approximately 15,000 seats to the destination, significantly contributing to the growth and international reach of Los Cabos. Plus new domestic flights.
This news underscores Los Cabos’ robust recovery and its escalating appeal as a premier tourist destination. The combination of new luxury accommodations, enhanced sustainability initiatives, and strategic marketing efforts positions Los Cabos as a leading choice for discerning travelers seeking both luxury and eco-conscious travel experiences. As we look towards the future, the anticipated growth in the tourism and real estate sectors in Los Cabos is a promising sign of the destination’s resilience, adaptability, and enduring appeal as we usher in a new era of luxury and sustainability in Los Cabos.
