BY LISSETTE VALENTIN
I needed childcare when I moved to Los Cabos a year ago.
Like most ex-pat parents, I assumed there were standards for temporary childcare here, so I sought everywhere in the area and that is when I met Lili Vega. I instantly realized she was a patient, caring, loving, responsible person. She told me “I truly enjoy working with children. It is constant two-sided feedback. They learn from me but I actually learn more from them. Of course, it has its challenges and difficult moments, but the love and gratitude of the children make it worth it.”
Lili, a native of Baja, was born in Mulege, raised in La Paz and has lived in many places like Brownsville, Texas. She is a certified babysitter and a yoga instructor for kids as well as adults. She is also the co-founder and manager at Baja Kids Lab. Her career with children started in the summer of 2001 at the Center of Psychological and Alternative Therapies in Toluca City, capital of the State of Mexico in the mainland. There she worked as a teacher’s assistant with a group of 20 or more special-needs children between the ages of 5 and 12.
In 2013 she received several certifications, including the Baby Care Certification by First AID Web Inc and National Health Safety Foundation, Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training by the American Academy of Paediatrics, Infant First Aid recognition by the Mexican Red Cross and more recently the Yoga Kids Families Instructor Certification by Rainbow Kids Yoga and Yoga Alliance.
The idea for Baja Kids Lab came about when Lili said “I wanted to give parents peace of mind while visiting Baja with their children.”
BKL is more than an onsite babysitting service for traveling parents. It is a group of entrepreneurs, mentors and babysitters seeking the optimal integral development of children, is based on self-knowledge, respect, love for oneself and the environment and is achieved through games, dynamics and workshops. The workshops’ objectives are skills development and social integration while having fun. The workshops occasionally require an installation that can be brought to a home, a villa, a hotel, a park, or a wedding and events venue. It could be either an art workshop, scientific or a wellness one.
For a wedding, they surely will make the day less stressful by creating an environment where the children can have their own “Wedding Time Party.” BKL will bring board games and arts and crafts, as well as toys and games (treasure hunts, lawn bowling, Frisbee golf, e.g.) to create a fun atmosphere for the kids. They design the kids’ activities to meet the needs and ages of the children attending with age-appropriate activities and toys.
For corporate events, conferences, conventions or trade shows, Baja Kids Lab provides a babysitting team that fits each client’s budget. When parents have the option to bring their children, clients report higher attendance. BKL works hand in hand with event and wedding planners, DMC’s (Destination Management Companies) and all venues to arrange the childcare needed for a seamless transition between the parents and the BKL staff.
Or if a regular babysitting service is needed, they have you covered, too. Your children will be looked after in the safety of your own vacation rental, Airbnb or event venue! Every sitter arrives with a bag of games, books, and age-appropriate activities. In addition, upon request, they have sitters who can care for families of children with special needs or speak other languages.
Whether you need a bilingual babysitter for a couple of hours or a full team of them while on vacation, from La Paz to Los Cabos, Los Barriles or anywhere in between, you can be sure your children will be in great hands with Lili at Baja Kids Lab.
