Most likely, Mexico. With 44.7 percent of the world’s production, Mexico is now the world’s leading papaya exporter, followed by Guatemala and Brazil as production grew 3.2 percent last year. Sales to the U.S. of the fruit, which is rich in vitamins A, C and B-complex, and contains minerals such as potassium, magnesium, fiber, folic acid and small amounts of calcium and iron, reached $86 million in 2020.
