Since 2018, mountain climbing guide Enrique has taken groups of 20 or 30 people at a time up the Mt. Solmar ascent more than 2,000 times.
This challenging mountain climb takes hiking enthusiasts 440 feet above the Lands End Arch, offering everyone who has taken this hike unbelievably nice views of Cabo San Lucas Bay, The Sea of Cortez and The Pacific Ocean. It's located on private land, but the owner offers guided climbs. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the top and only 15-20 minutes walking back down.
The daily tour is between Mondays and Fridays starting at 8 a.m. sharp. The location is a bit past the Navy compound where visitors will immediately see dogs roaming around the fenced property which is the clear signal you’re in the right place. Other tourists waiting around is another confirmation you're about to climb Mt. Solmar.
Bring some bottled water, and a small backpack and wear good hiking shoes. The climb can be challenging at times, and you’ll need to use your hands to crawl up and down at various points. Leaving at 8 a.m., one can expect to return by noon. Tips for the guide are greatly appreciated.
"This is not an easy hike! It’s absolutely worth the effort. He is such a great guide and hiking with the dogs is wonderful. A family brought their small children on this hike, which I would NOT recommend. The views at the top are breathtaking," said Juan Gallegos of Salinas, California after his December 2024 visit.
"If you want the best views of Cabo, this is the hike for you. However, some words of advice. This is a strenuous hike that involves some steep hiking and climbing over rocks. The trip down requires good leg strength due to rocks and loose gravel. Make sure you have plenty of water, especially in the summer months. I am 60 and consider myself to be in ‘good shape’. Mt. Solmar taught me a lesson! I plan to improve my fitness and tackle it again," said Donna Philbrook of Eugene, Oregon after her August 2024 vacation.
“A hike to remember! Incredible morning hiking, exploring and learning the history of the area! We highly recommend going on this adventure up the mountain,” exclaimed Faith W of Montreal, Canada.
“Our guide took his time and showed us plants and explained what we were seeing. And we were encouraged to slow down and just sit and take in the amazing view,” said Martha Escamilla of San Antonio, Texas, who hiked to the top and back down with her two teenage daughters, who totally loved the experience.
