Not sure if good or bad
At the heart of La Paz’s Christmas market, a stall featuring a unique item is drawing attention: a doll of Claudia Sheinbaum, the first female president of Mexico. The doll has sparked surprise and commentary among market-goers who are intrigued by the details of its design and the historical phrases it recites at the press of a button.
The Claudia Sheinbaum doll, located at a gift and toy stall amid replicas of Oscar statuettes and baby Jesus figures, sports a stylized face with large expressive eyes and marked eyebrows. Dressed in a formal black suit with a white shirt and black bow, and a tricolor sash across the chest, the figure emulates presidential attire.
The stall owner, the only vendor at the market offering this product, shared insights into the doll’s reception. Initially stocked with five units priced at $25 each, slow sales prompted a price drop to $15. At the time of the interview, only one doll remained, heightening its exclusivity.
“It’s something unique. People stop to ask, but not many dared to buy it initially. However, I think it’s special because it’s not every day you get the opportunity to give the figure of the first female president of Mexico as a gift, especially during Christmas,” the vendor noted.
Visitors to the market view the doll as a mix of historical tribute, collector’s item, and unique souvenir. One amusing suggestion is to pair it with a Chucky doll for those who appreciate an eclectic collection.
The vendor emphasized, “It’s not just a toy, but a symbol of a historical milestone for the country. In a context where more and more products aim to connect with significant moments, this item offers an interesting option for those looking to celebrate the beginning of a new era in Mexican politics uniquely.”
When the button on the doll is pressed, it speaks phrases from Sheinbaum’s acceptance speech in Spanish, capturing the essence of her vision. Some of the phrases include:
• “Mirando en todo por el bien y prosperidad y la unión” (Looking out for good, prosperity, and union in everything).
• “Es el tiempo del cambio verdadero” (It’s time for real change).
• “Me siento sumamente orgullosa” (I feel extremely proud).
• “Es el tiempo de la revolución de las conciencias” (This is the time for the revolution of consciousness).
• “Vamos a ganar el 2024” (We are going to win in 2024).
• “Aquí necesitamos de todos y de todas” (Here, we need everyone, women and men).
