In case you haven’t noticed, Los Cabos has a severe water shortage. No one is feeling that squeeze more sharply than the economically challenged portion of our society. Having access to clean drinking water is a basic human right and the barrios and less fortunate suburban colonios of Los Cabos do not have anything to drink, to wash, to cook, to flush toilets, shower or anything else. Many of us, (including myself), take it for granted that we will have a glass of clean water to drink when we need it. The only time I started to think about it was when traffic was locked up downtown due to the water protests last month.
The PURE Foundation is raising money to build 3 public water stations that will provide free clean water to the hardest hit areas using amazing machines that capture water from the air and create 250-500 liters of clean water per day. The 3 stations will be built in ITES, a public college and in two kitchens run by the Fundación Niños del Capitán and Fundación Sarahuaro, charities that feed and clothe the poorest children of Los Cabos. Each station costs $30,000 so the fundraising goal is $125,000 dollars for construction costs and the water machines.
PURE wants to thank the donors of its inaugural “Hidratemos Los Cabos 2024” Charity Gala held December 20, 2024, at the beautiful Restaurant Torote, who donated their elegant hilltop facility and food under the direction of Chef Víctor Garrido. Event attendees enjoyed lovely canapes of fresh oysters on the half shell, sushi and sashimi tostadas. Drinks were also provided: Artisanal beers, tequila and mezcal.
The audiovisual experience was a highlight of the night, thanks to the donation by Avantec, led by Ernesto Presteguin. The audiovisual production, from lighting to sound and visual effects, amplified every speech and key moment, creating a vibrant atmosphere that left a lasting impression on every attendee.
The top donors of the event were Dr. José Ramón Saucillo of the Face Project, Dr. Maritza Niño of Opticenter, Raul Hernandez who donated $5000 dollars for construction costs and Arandi Torres. Following their example, Architect Diego Mejía and Dr. Massiel Vizcaíno made significant contributions, demonstrating that solidarity has a multiplying effect when it comes from the heart.
Finally, the night featured the participation of emerging artist Rosa García, who painted a stunning piece live and in full color, valued at over 60,000 pesos. The artwork, successfully auctioned, became a visual symbol of what can be achieved when art and generosity come together for a noble cause.
While the event was a definite success, it fell short of the total goal of $125,000 dollars and more is needed to make sure all 3 stations can be built in 2025. Donations are tax deductible so if you would like to become a donor please contact: Giancarlo Munoz Phone: +52 624 235 0263
